Thursdays Update
Hey All,
So I have heard there is a little interest in Thursdays and that we should start calling on games for those weeks. So I wanted to give you an update so everyone was in the loop.
Starfire sports is very generous in giving us the field, for free, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In years prior, we have been able to get games going consistently twice/week, but in the last year and this year we have struggled to get two games per week. Because of this, Starfire asked if we were not using the fields, to turn it over to other groups that would use it for soccer in a heartbeat. Neither starfire nor I wants a field going to waste, so I decided to make a decision to save the fields.
I play frisbee all over the place, and the two teams I play competitively for practice on a regular basis. My AUDL (semi-pro) team needed a place to practice, and I volunteered the Thursday fields for several times in the next 6 weeks. This, unfortunately, is not an open practice and is only open for team members. Although this is not ideal and I would like it open to all, this is what needed to be done to keep the field. The season ends in mid to late July, and Thursday pickup will resume at that time. When you see postings about Thursdays, you will know they have resumed.
Thank you for your understanding,
Brad

Please provide a schedule of when these practices for your AUDL team are. After the last Tuesday pick up in which you again not in attendance, several of us were rallying forces to play on Thursdays rather than to accept your pre-cancellation notice that makes no Thursday a pre-determined conclusion. Certainly if the AUDL needs a field, we can accommodate; but on the other hand as there appears to be an increased number who actually are showing up, then we all need to be accommodated.

i agree with collin. we were unaware of this fact and no we arent able to play because lack of a way to contact each other. you have yet to come out an play on a tuesday or thursday as im aware. so if possible maybe we could start some sort of directory so in the event the raptors need to commandeer the field in the future we can send out a text of some kind alerting people of an alternate location to play.
Robin: Glad to hear that there was interest in getting Thursdays up and running again. The schedule will be the three Thursdays, June 26th, July 3rd, July 10th. I originally was going to be using next Thursdaya as well, but since it sounds like there is interest I will post and email about it. Just be aware those three Thursdays will be used as I already promised my coach the use of those three days. Hope that is understandable. My concern is using and keeping the field. When I sent out a plea to get *A* Thursday going, we struggled to make it happen. I believe we had six signups. I hope with some of the college students coming back, we now have enough. So next Thursday we will try to make a game happen, then we will have 3 Thursdays off. My apologies if we could have gotten enough for those Thursdays, but my analysis of numbers made me think we would not.
NTHammami: The only way I know to contact each other is through this blog, which I set up, and through an email distribution, which was given to me and I work to expand. I don't know of another way to contact each other and while it is not perfect, it works enough to organize pickup. As mentioned to Robin above, next Thursday I will try to get something going, and then we will be off for three weeks. If you wish to use the distribution list, feel free to organize pickup for another location, but I feel like that will be difficult to do. I am not going to organize pickup for the three Thursdays we will be using the field. I have only attended 2 or 3 games this season, wish I could have made more, but I do not know what you expect of me when I have other obligations keeping me away. I am still setting aside time and effort to organize, and hope to attend more later in the season.
Thanks, Brad, for providing this forum and allowing us a local place to play, while being a good steward and neighbor in assuring nice fields are getting the use they deserve. I'm hoping and believing that our fellow players will step up and attend our games regularly so that these discussions will not be needed in the future.
Colin
